Appellation: Côte de Nuits Villages
Variety: Pinot Noir
Estate: Located in Comblanchien, the southernmost village of the Côte de Nuits, young Antoine Lienhardt has taken over his family's vines and in just a couple of years, heads are already turning. Graced with several plots of old vines and the passion to do virtually every aspect of the labor themselves, he and his partner Juliette Joblot, are thoroughly driven to make their mark in the Côte d'Or.
The couple, both in life and in the vineyards, started their project with the 2011 vintage when they took over 4.2 Hectares of vineyards that had belonged to Antoine’s grandfather and had been in long-term lease since his retirement in 1992. Antoine had previously cut his teeth working for 4 years at Domaine Amiot-Servelle in Chambolle-Musigny, with shorter stints in Chablis and in South Africa. Though Antoine deftly admits, “I learned most of what I know from my partner, Juliette”. Ms. Joblot, who is no stranger to producing over achieving wines, is the daughter of the famed Jean-Marc Joblot of Givry, and also works at the family estate. Monsieur Joblot is often credited for single-handedly putting the Givry appellation on the map (and for that matter the whole Cote Chalonaise).
Their vineyards are farmed organically and crops are kept below 40HL/Hectare. Fairly long skin maceration is the rule here with minimal manipulation through the aging process. Fining and filtering are not part of the program.
Tasting Notes: This vineyard is located just above the village of Comblanchien at the southern tip of the Côte de Nuits.
Good concentration and medium dark extraction is nonetheless followed up with a lacy, mineral texture.
Antoine's Plantes aux Bois is a Pinot of purity, freshness and precision.
