Founded in 2006 by Thomas Teibert and the Christ family, Domaine de l'Horizon is located in Calce at the foot of the Pyrenees. The vineyards are planted with indigenous grape varieties and are between 40 and 100 years old. The wild naturalness and the widespread fragrant Garriques give the wines their original natural character.
The vineyards are planted with Muscat Petit Grain, Macabeo, Carignan Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Grenache Noir and Syrah. The vines are trained in the traditional Gobelet-style, in which the vines stay free without any support. The pins are arranged on short arms in a circle on a short stem, giving the vine the form of a trophy. Common since the days of the Romans, this system is ideal for the dry climate around Calce.
The vines grow on limestone gravel with high stone and clay percentage. In addition there are black and brown shale and marl, a clay-limestone-shale weathering of bluish-gray color. The soil strongly contains partly ferric oxide. This complex soil structure gives the wine a fascinating mineral density and complexity.
