Variety: Pinot Noir
Estate: In 2012 owner and winemaker, Charles Van Canneyt, decided to set up a micro négociant business with the emphasis on appellations he didn’t own and only Grands Crus or top 1ers Crus. He is the winemaker for his grandparents domaine, Hudelot-Noëllat wines. He wanted something to call his own, and as land prices keep increasing he took the next best route as micro-negotiant. For his second vintage, 2013, he expanded the range a little and swapped some Crus so that it was an exceptionally strong and comprehensive range. For most of the wines he made as little as one barrel and sometimes two. For a couple of the cuvées, Charmes, for example, he made 4!
The vinification follows the same pattern as for the wines of the domaine; limited extraction and a sensible new oak policy. The wines are not cheap at the top end. These grand appellations are in such demand that buying in fruit is often more expensive that owning the vineyards yourself!
