Estate: There are so many unbelievable vignerons in the Loire Valley who employ biodynamic principles and produce superb wines. Thierry Germain is one of these such producers. The first time I tasted wines from Thierry Germain I was blown away. They left an indelible mark in my mind and my palate.
Thierry has a goal; to make the best wine in the Loire Valley. He focuses on Cabernet Franc primarily. He keeps a plot just for compost. In addition, his plots have over 100 flora coexisting with the vines. His philosophy is to follow the zodiac to better understand the position of man and and vine in the cosmos.
He also helps other wine makers transition to organic or biodynamic farming practices.
Terres Chaudes: The average age of the vines is 35 to 45 years old. The vines are grown in subsoil called Tufa. This is a mixture of chalk, clay, and sandy limestone. Hand harvested.
Tasting Note: The wine has a ruby granite color and is opaque. It has violet tints. The nose is distinguished with black and red fruits, spice, with wood and floral notes. It has a cooling minty undertone accompanied with violet. The attack is fruity then a the spices take over. Pepper, cloves, cinnamon, vanilla are all present. There are medium tannins, acidity and a nice long finish.
