Region: Rhône Valley
Varieties: 60% Grenache, 10% Cinsault, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 5% Clairette, 5% Bourboulenc
Estate: Ideally situated at the crossroads of Provence and Languedoc, the Domaine de la Mordorée produces some of the greatest vintages of the Rhône Valley: Lirac, Tavel, Châtauneful-du-Pape, and Condrieu.
"We have come from a long line of winegrowers. The domaine as such was created in 1986. As great devotees of the marvelous bird that is the woodcock, we chose the poetic adjective that can be used to describe its color, "mordoré", as the name of the estate. "La Mordorée". We use four names for our four vintages: "La Remise", "La Dame Rousse," "La Dame Voyageuse", and "La Reine des Bois", and for outstanding vintages, "La Plume du Peintre."
Tasting Notes: "Textbook Tavel, this is a meaty, generously flavored rosé with lots of stony mineral flavor to support the red fruit. Based on Grenache from 40 year old vines and blended with a host of local varieties, the wine seems to grow in size and complexity with air, herbal notes and grapefruit acidity adding lift and freshness. It's hearty enough to pair with seafood and sausages, delicate enough to drink on its own." (Wine & Spirits)
