This Château has quite an extensive history. It all began in 1690, by a feudal act of recognition by King Louis XIV. Jean Micheau, a carpenter of old growth forest by trade was announced as owner of the property. For the next 300 years, the Château, through tax documents and historical maps, saw change in ownership multiple times. A date of much importance came in 1955 when the first report of Saint-Émilion classification designated Château La Dominique as Grand Cru Classé, which it has always honored since then. In 1969, Clément Fayat purchased the Château. This is when things took a very exciting turn.

Clément Fayat, dropped out of school at age 15 and became a bricklayer. Last year, he was included on the 2014 Forbes Billionares' list. His story is quite incredible. A true success story. When he purchased the Château, the vineyard was starved of funds. It was run down and in desperate need of restoration. Immediatley, Clément drained the vineyards, redesigned the chai, and brought in a new vinification system. Part of this included increasing the percentage of cabernet franc in the blend, like their very famous neighbor, Cheval Blanc.

The Château has transformed aesthetically as well. Famed architect Jean Nouvel took on the project and created an incredibly eye catching winery equipped with reflective red- wine colored steel panels. La Dominique “captures the landscape, it plays with the terroir, it creates an emotion,” Nouvel said. The top floor of the winery is a restaurant, where left and right bank producers break bread together and toast with the finest Bordeaux.

With its deep and shiny colour, Château La Dominique brings together the generosity of a Saint Emilion and the typicity of a Pomerol.

The nose is intense, characterized by seducing aromas of ripe fruits and subtle spicy notes. In most vintages, you will find truffle and licorice notes, complemented by peppery and woody aromas.

With a sharp attack, it is fleshy and round, with silky and precise tannins. The finish is long and full and leaves you with a pleasant feeling of bliss.

Aimed to be aged in most vintages, but can also be appreciated during its early years.
